VIDEO DIARY: Camper van road trip in New Zealand
By Helen Wright
In our opinion, taking on New Zealand by camper van is the BEST way to see the country. But, what is life really like in a camper van for five weeks? All is revealed in our three-part camper van road trip in New Zealand video series! If you haven’t subscribed to our YouTube channel – please do! We have new videos coming soon, so click here to make sure you don’t miss any of our travel tips and tricks.
We flew into Auckland and headed straight up to the Bay of Islands to start our trip. Everywhere we stayed and everything we did is detailed here in our Ultimate Guide to New Zealand . There are plenty of camper companies in New Zealand but we opted for a little green and purple home on wheels with Jucy.co.nz – find out more and follow all our Kiwi adventures below!
CAMPER VAN ROAD TRIP IN NEW ZEALAND – PART ONE
In this video we take on the North Island, stopping in The Bay of Islands, Aukland, Hot Water Beach, Orewa Beach, Waihi Beach, Rotorua, Lake Taupo, and the Waitomo Caves. If you are planning your own trip and want to know everywhere we stayed overnight, you are in luck!
In the second video we head to Hawke’s Bay, Wellington, Abel Tasman National Park, Marlborough and Kaikoura (SPOILER: we saw a whale swimming in the wild!). Plus, we took the Interislander Ferry to the South Island and there was also wine, of course.

THE ULTIMATE CAMPER VAN ROAD TRIP NEW ZEALAND
Can you believe we were originally going to make just one video to document our time in New Zealand? We tried, but it was impossible to show all the beauty of this country and provide a glimpse at life in a camper van. It’s a bit like picking between our children but the final video in the series is probably our favourite – when we watched the footage back we wondered if it had all been a dream! It’s safe to say we loved the South Island. This video starts with a ride on the TranzAlpine railway to Arthur’s Pass, then we drive to UNESCO Dark Sky Reserve – Lake Tekapo, take a Ski Plane to Mt.Cook, hike the Tasman Glacier, explore Milford Sound, have fun in Queenstown and ride horses along the Ride of The Rings in Glenorchy. If we could go back tomorrow and do it all again we would.
