Get on the Guestlist Getaways
By Helen Wright
Sometimes we need a relaxing holiday, a week laying horizontal on the sand with nothing but a bikini and a good book. And sometimes… we don’t. If you want to blow the budget and party your pants off, these six party pads wouldn’t be a bad place to start. Our pick of the most VIPtastic places to party around the world.
Ace Hotel NY
20W 29th Street, New York City, NY 10001
HIP HANGOUT: Imagine you’re best mates with Zooey Deschanel and she took you to a really cool party with her really cool mates. That still wouldn’t be as really cool as this hot spot. The lobby bar is packed with pretty people and has live music almost every night. Later, the Liberty basement plays host to excellent DJs in a vintage rave-style underground club. It’s actually a shame NYC is so much fun because once you’re in this place, you wan’t need to leave. The hotel even has a great gastro pub and an independent coffee shop – raved about by everyone! Plus, spotted inside, uber cool kids Kelly Osbourne and Chloe Sevigny giving their swanky star of approval.
SNEAK PEAK: Some of the rooms have DJ decks in, or an acoustic guitar to use! Make friends in the bar and invite them up for your own achingly hip afterparty. And, there’s no chance of forgetting your spectacular stay – there are retro Polaroid cameras on hand for you to capture the moment.
Take… The hippest mate you can find. Or an Indie boy with a guitar who you met on the New York subway.
Bar Tab: Beer is £4 for a 12oz can. Cocktails (all named after songs – obviously) £8
Beauty Sleep: Rooms start from £110 per night.
Jet Set Go: Virgin Atlantic flies five times daily from London to New York. Prices start from £420 per person. www.virginatlantic.com
A LIST ADDRESS
The Oasis Clubhouse, Buenos Aires
HIP HANGOUT: This place is so secret squirrel, you basically have to be in the know to even know it exists. It’s actually a private member’s club so you need to be invited or booked into one of the rooms to be given the full address (clue: it’s right in the middle of Palermo Soho, the city’s answer to London’s West End). It’s super pretty with a candlelit pool and fairylight draped cabanas. Forget Sunday rest – this is the best day of the week, with an afternoon BBQ party, salsa as the sun goes down and then a DJ dance off until dawn.
Friends, boyfriend, anyone with a sun tan, or one of the dancers from Strictly.
SNEAK PEAK: Being able to post your location on Twitter. Plus, guests have access to a private kitchen so you can help yourself to some sneaky snacks and soft drinks free of charge to keep you going.
Beauty Sleep: Talk about VIP – there’s only three rooms! Prices start from £284 per night
Jet Set Go: Flights to Buenos Aires on British Airways start from £695
Room Mate Oscar, Madrid
HIP HANGOUT: Things we love about Spain: They like a nap in the afternoon; they go out late; they really know how to party. And you can do all three of these from a cushion-scattered day bed on the sprawling rooftop terrace, which has views all over the city. With a mix of locals and international hipsters, it’s the place to be in Madrid any day of the week. The poolside party goes on til late – with a spectacular sunset to let you know it’s cocktail hour.
Take… Your mates. But it’s totes okay to ditch them for the fit fella lounging on the bed next to you.
SNEAK PEAK: Lay-in central! Breakfast is served until midday. And if that doesn’t cure your hangover you only have to shuffle up to the roof, plonk yourself down and order a bloody mary.
Bar Tab: Cocktails £10, Beer £6
Beauty Sleep: Rooms start from £106 per night.
Jet Set Go: Fights from London to Madrid on Easyjet start from £33.49 per person (one-way) easyjet.com
WHAT HAPPENS IN…
Hard Rock Hotel, Las Vegas
4455 Paradise Rd Las Vegas, Nevada 89169
HIP HANGOUT: What makes a party rock n roll? Tons of buff boys (and girls) with their tops off dancing in a pool shaped like a guitar. That’s what! From your balcony it looks like the world’s sexiest soup. The famous Sunday Rehab pool party kicks off at 10am and in typical Vegas style, seems to finish some time on Monday afternoon… The hotel’s casino is not too intimidating if you fancy betting your hand at black jack and there’s poker and craps lessons every day for total newcomers.
SNEAK PEAK: The Sex-menities room-service menu. Forget that scorching desert sun – you can guarantee a spanking hot holiday here without getting out of bed! Order saucy items 24 hours a day from under the duvet, just like you would food and drink. The cheeky choices include ‘Turn Me On’ vibrating panties and Naughty Aphrodisiac Bubble Bath. All of the items arrive gift-wrapped, so one will ever know what’s inside!
Take… Your boyfriend. On his birthday.
Bar Tab: Cocktails £10, Beers £6, Bottle of Champagne £36
Beauty Sleep: Rooms from £50 per night.
Jet Set Go: British Airways fly direct to Las Vegas from London, prices start at £498 return. www.ba.com
The Hoxton Hotel, London
81 Great Eastern Street, London EC2A 3HU
HIP HANGOUT: There’s always a party going on in East London and most of them either start (or end) at ‘the Hox’. The bar is a good mix of chic city workers, trendy Shoreditch-ites and maybe the odd celeb, making for a great atmosphere. (We spotted Alexa Chung at the bar.) After a heavy night, get up late and have brunch at the grill. The Waffles with strawberries and Bourbon cream are helpful for hangovers. And starting all over again…
Take… Go on your own and drape yourself over the bar reading a copy of The Great Gatsby. (Or… take your mates)
SNEAK PEAK: Free access to in-house events such as ‘The Hox Sessions’ with live bands on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, Pop Up shops and art exhibitions.
Bar Tab: Bottled beers fro £3.60, Cocktails £8.50, Champagne £7.50 per glass
Beauty Sleep: Rooms range from £49 up to £269 (They have lots of fabulous special offers too – if you’re super speedy, you might even get a room for £1! Keep your eye on the website)
Jet Set Go: You can fly to London from Edinburgh, Belfast, Glasgow and Inverness. Flight prices start from £26.49 per person (one way) easyjet.com
